Creative Digital Media Production

Extended Certificate (1 A Level)

This qualification will teach you about the Media Industry through analysing media representations, pitching and producing media projects, responding to a commission and developing a varied portfolio using industry standard equipment.

The industry is fast growing; businesses and organisations of all varieties rely heavily on Media in one form or another to survive. Media is the platform that underpins communication in the 21st Century so this course is a good stepping stone to developing skills appropriate for a broad range of work place settings or Higher Education courses.

Extended Diploma (3 A Levels)

This qualification is designed for learners who want to study Media related degree courses in Higher Education. You will gain knowledge and understanding of Creative Digital Media Production and develop an understanding of how to work within the Media Industries. Your Tutors will work alongside you to teach you skills in areas such as single and multi-camera techniques, lighting, sound recording and editing to produce practical film and television projects.

This course offers a wide range of units covering: media representations, pre production portfolio, responding to a commission, film production – fiction/factual, interview techniques, sound production, single camera techniques, multi-camera techniques, specialist subject investigations and media campaigns.

Specific Entry Requirements

Students applying for the Level 3 BTEC in Creative Digital Media Production should achieve at the very least a Level 4 in English Language, Maths and 3 other GCSE subjects. Students invited for interview will be asked to prepare a portfolio that expresses your creativity along with a written task set by the CMSS. This work will be assessed by the subject specialist as part of the interview process and will contribute to the decision of an offer being made.

Using the Studio School’s industry standard, technical equipment and working spaces, you will be assessed in the following ways:

  • Creation of a portfolio of film footage.
  • Personal and group presentations that pitch ideas and approaches.
  • The production of storyboarding and pre-production plans.
  • Written responses to essay style questions.

The course assessment structure is a combination of internally assessed coursework and Edexcel-set controlled assessment.

Assessment is broken in the following ways:

  • Externally-assessed units (Ext Cert = 2 Units / Ext Dip = 4 Units)
  • Internally-assessed units (Ext Cert = 2 Units / Ext Dip = 9 Units)

Throughout the course you will be given a grade prediction based on your internally assessed work.

One of the biggest advantages of the Studio School is every department has unlimited access to all of the resources on offer. Each department does, however, specialise in an array of core resources. This enable students to get the most out of the resources closest to their chosen subject.
