National Careers Week 2016

March 7th sees the start of National Careers Week at the Creative & Media Studio School, Students be sure to attend any presentations that may benefit you!

National Careers Week (NCW) is a celebration of careers guidance and free resources in education across the UK. The aim is to provide a focus for careers guidance activity at an important stage in the academic calendar to help support young people leaving education.

National Careers Week at the Creative & Media Studio School 2016.

In March 2016 we really made an effort to create a timetable of informative, inspiring and incredible people (including some ex students!) who have all succeeded in their chosen career.

Whether they have started their own business, worked for their dream company or pursued their passions and interests and then turned them into a job, National Careers Week had it all at the Studio School!

Students had the opportunity to sign up for a variety of talks and presentations, all of which are shown in the timetable below. You can download this file from the link at the bottom of the page.

NCW Timetable

National Careers Week opened my eyes to the many opportunities which the world of work has to offer. I decided to test out as many talks as possible to get a feel for the all the different experiences which were available. I attended presentations such as: Leeds College of Art, Apprenticeship Finder, Entrepreneurship and many more.

Hearing from real life businesses gave me the perspective of careers and university courses which will use my personal skills for a career which I enjoy. Although this has made my choices even harder to make with the vast opportunites available. The week showed me that you don’t have to set yourself on one path and you can take many other paths before you find the job which suits your skill set. As we heard from teachers at the Studio School I realised they all had different goals before becoming a teacher.

Keeping that in mind I feel like I can keep my options open before making a set decision on what career line I want to go down. Each individual talk gave me the confidence to look at different courses in both university and apprenticeships.

About the school

The Creative & Media Studio School is open to all young people who have a creative flare and are aged between 16 – 19 years old.

The Creative and Media Studio School was the first Studio School to open in the world in 2010. Since then it has achieved a series of fantastic outcomes for students. Today's news (14.08.2014) follows in that tradition and we are delighted

My Art lessons in the Studio School have shown me that it's not what you see, but what you make others see; I've been completely inspired.

With the skills I have developed and opportunities I have been given in the field of Graphic Design, I am positive that it will help me to lead a successful life with a very fulfilling career.

Photography means I can make Art out of real life objects. I love seeing how my skills can create amazing pieces of work, it's very exciting.

Textiles at the Studio School has allowed us to express ourselves, explore different specialist techniques, find our inner creativity and apply it to exciting scenarios.

Learning Business in the Studio School has helped me realise that Business is everywhere and has enabled me to see the world through grown up eyes.

Creative Media Production gives me the skills, confidence and experience to work with external businesses and create professional video products whilst gaining a qualification.

Drama has really helped me to develop skills I can use in all my subjects. I've really grown in confidence because of the way I have been taught.

It's helped me to realise the number of employment opportunities available in the Music Industry, giving me the skills to succeed in any profession. I've developed skills in communication, teamwork, cooperation and Music Technology skills.
