Currently, no national measures of attendance rates at Post 16/Further Education exist, unlike for schools, where data collected on absences allow for the calculation of national and regional averages. This means the Creative & Media Studio School (C&MSS) are responsible for setting our own expectations and ensuring high standards are achieved. We feel passionately about excellent attendance. Excellent attendance will open more options Post 18/19, it will improve academic and vocational success outcomes for students and will also ensure students are making the very best of the educational opportunities and facilities that they are genuinely entitled too.
We devote a considerable amount of time and resources into managing and supporting good attendance. Most importantly, we aim to understand individual student’s contexts and reasons that may impact upon their attendance. Knowing the reasons for any poor attendance is at the heart of devising strategies to tackle it successfully. At the C&MSS, good attendance is everyone’s responsibility; Students, Teachers, Tutors, Personal Coaches and Senior Management. A whole-College ethos of high expectations for student’s attendance is communicated from the moment a student enrols with us. We firmly believe that attendance relates to employability and life chances and is not something to pay lip service too. Teachers have a role in ensuring lessons are engaging and challenging and planned in a way to support full student participation. The Pastoral Team are committed to acknowledging and rewarding all excellent attendance through appropriate and engaging strategies. Tutors and Personal Coaches have a responsibility for ensuring the College ethos is embedded within student’s mind and to support them to overcome any barriers to achieving good attendance. Senior Management will understand individual student’s circumstances and ensure all systems are in place to support staff and students to achieve success.
