A&D - Fashion & Clothing

Developing Skills with Fabric!

Duration: 1.5 hours / Max No: 12

Fashion is a subject that demands creativity and thinking from concept through to completed product. In our Fashion Department, your students would be able to cut out patterns and fabric around the cutting tables to then use the machines and over locker to develop skills that will produce a finished garment for wearing. For the girls who are interested in this, they could be going home with a printed Stratford skirt! Hemming the garment and attaching a zip or waste band will completely finish the item! If time doesn’t permit, then your students could enjoy a course on fabric decoration, dyeing methods and printing.Students will be able to develop their creativity by combining different techniques such as batik, stencil printing and fabric paints. Take your pick!

A&D - Fine Art

Prepare to become Artists through imagination!

Duration: 1.5 hours / Max No: 12

Fine Art is offering the opportunity of two different inspirational workshops that enable students to see the range of options available through this distinguished subject.Students can learn tradition printing techniques (engraving and relief) using the industrial roller print press to create printed artwork. This will involve preparing creative and textural backgrounds to print onto using a variety of materials, which will result in prints that can be taken away with them.Students could also spend a relaxing, creative hour in the drawing and painting workshop where they can create Art pieces to take home that could include: small and large scale drawing, drawing with unusual tools or working with pencil, charcoal, paint and inks – although don’t forget to bring some old clothes to cover up.

A&D - Graphic Design

Let’s get sticky!

Duration: 1 - 1.5 hours / Max No: 12

If you have eager Graphic Design students at Key Stage 4 then perhaps you can capture their imagination with a workshop that focuses on Sticker Design!Students can design logos and illustrations that can be printed as vinyl stickers. They can work with the Studio School’s professional designers to develop their skills further on Photoshop and Illustrator to put together their ideal sticker and then watch how this is produced into a real tangible output. Great for their pencil case, folders, mirrors – we are sure they can find endless potential for their self-made stickers!

A&D - Photography

Something you’ve never seen before!

Duration: 1.5 hours / Max No: 12

Photography is all around us in traditional form, but have your students really explored all the creative dimensions of the camera? The C&MSS have expert Photography Tutors who are not happy unless they are demonstrating the true extremes of this innovative subject.Students are invited to workshops that will enable them to ‘paint with light’. Using the manual settings on our DSLR cameras and studying the techniques of slow shutter speeds, Students will see creations and illusions which will take their breath away. They will have the opportunity to be creative with light to develop their skills drawing with torches and capturing this in still image form.

A&D - Textiles

So much to come and see!

Duration: 1.5 - 2 hours / Max No: 4–15 depending on workshop

Textiles is not just about a needle, thread and sewing machine! At the C&MSS, students can come and learn about the Screen-printing process so they have a go themselves and take a print home with them. Or why not book them into use our Sublimation printer and heat presses to create a mug or an apron to take home? We can even offer your students the chance to accessorise - our Millinery Workshop* shows students how to develop their own fascinator or headpiece using Sinamay, or they can develop their own felt hat (Fedora, Cloche or Bowler) using traditional hand blocking techniques.Perhaps your students would also enjoy creating their own embroidery design? Our industrial embroidery machine will show them how it’s done in the real world!*This would need to be arranged over the course of 3 weeks so the students can complete the finished item.
